About Hanna Woody

My approach

Hanna Woody.jpg

I approach therapy from an empowerment-centered, strengths-based perspective.  You can expect a warm, non-judgmental space when working with me. I incorporate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR- a therapeutic technique using eye-movement), cognitive behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy.  I also incorporate body-based techniques to help with processing emotions and identifying the physical sensations of negative and positive feelings. Our mental health is directly linked to the health of our brains and our bodies.  I am an avid Enneagram enthusiast. The Enneagram is a personality model focusing on self-growth and working towards the healthiest version of yourself. I find that the Enneagram greatly informs my practice.

Why I’m a therapist

As a counselor, I have the privilege of helping other humans walk through their darkest moments and find their inner resilience.  I understand that self-work is a process of vulnerable and courageous self-discovery. Counseling has been an extraordinary gift to me: both professionally and personally.  I know that people have the capacity to heal even when they have trouble believing it is possible.

A bit about my background

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor.  I’ve called the beautiful Asheville mountains my 'home' for over 17 years.  After earning my Master’s degree in counseling from Western Carolina University, I worked in several different clinical settings.  I have worked as a family trauma therapist, a school counselor, and as a clinical mental health counselor. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), trauma-informed therapy, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, structural family therapy, and child therapy.  I am trained in the Embodiment Tradition of the Enneagram and co-own Empowered Enneagram.
